What is Paleozoic time?
The paleozoic time was the beginning of life forms. The Paleozoic era was approximately 300 million years ago. Today’s western coast of North American ran along the equator and Africa was the South Pole. The paleozoic era was divided into six sections Cambrian, Ordovician, silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous, and Permian. Plants began to grow and invertebrates began to form.
The Volcanic Activity during Paleozoic time
We still have many volcanos today such as Mount St. Helens and Krakatoa. But back millions of years ago there were even bigger volcanos and larger eruptions. These hot-spot volcano action events still went on millions of years ago. Because of all the volcanic smoke going into the atmosphere, the atmosphere was really bad. Because of this terrible atmosphere almost 95% of life forms died!
What was the climate like during the Paleozoic time?
The environment and climate became warmer. The living space of life forms became much colder. Towards the late Paleozoic era both oxygen levels and carbon dioxide levels became normal again At the end of the Paleozoic era carbon dioxide levels dropped and oxygen increased. This was the cause of the ice ages.
Here are some animals that didn’t adapt during this time and disappeared:
What event caused mass extinction during this time?
There is no exact reason why animals extinct, actually its a unsolved mystery. Some of the reasons these animals could of been extinct are asteroids, comets, or volcanic eruptions. All of these things would release debris into the atmosphere making it hard for life form.
